Statistics from the General Department of Customs, it is estimated that in June 2021, Vietnam’s rubber exports will reach about 130,000 tons, worth 221 million USD, up more than 57% in volume and 54.2% in value compared to that of the General Department of Customs. May 2021.
Compared to June 2020 decreased by 4.7% in volume, but increased by more than 36% in value; The average export price was at USD 1,700/ton, down nearly 2% compared to May 2021, but up 42.8% compared to June 2020.
Accumulated in the first 6 months of 2021, rubber exports reached about 681,000 tons, worth 1.15 billion USD, up 41.3% in volume and nearly 80% in value over the same period in 2020.

According to the Import and Export Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade), in addition to factory closures due to the pandemic and chip shortages, the global auto manufacturing industry is continuing to face a shortage of rubber supply. On the other hand, the global rubber supply is affected due to the shortage of shipping containers, along with China’s increase in reserves and the complicated development of the COVID-19 epidemic, which also affects the output of rubber supplied to the market. school.
However, experts forecast that in the medium-term period from 2021 to 2024, the world rubber price may enter a new price increase cycle due to the decreasing supply of rubber. Vietnam’s rubber exports can benefit in price. However, the rubber manufacturing and processing industry needs to step up processing and gradually reduce raw exports so that Vietnamese rubber can achieve higher value in the international market.
Notably, recently, Cambodia is emerging as a country with great potential in the development of the rubber industry. According to a report by Cambodia’s Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, in the first six months of 2021, the country exported 132.17,000 tons of natural rubber, worth $221.67 million, up 7.2% in value. volume and increased 38.2% in value over the same period in 2020, the average export price of rubber was at USD 1,677/ton, up 28.7% over the same period in 2020.
Cambodian rubber is mainly exported to Vietnam, Malaysia, China, Singapore, Japan and a few to the European Union market.
Investors are looking for opportunities from Cambodia’s growing rubber industry. Many tire factory projects are waiting for approval when seeing an increase in Cambodia’s domestic rubber supply. Cambodia’s rubber plantation area currently reaches 401,160ha, of which 292,500ha (72%) are mature rubber trees that can be exploited for latex.
